WinSCP

WinSCP is a program for transferring files (FTP, SFTP, and SSH), with lots of built-in "point-and-click" functionality whose interface is extremely versatile, making life a lot easier.

Example
At some point while trying to install software, you may have made the mistake of actually reading the README.txt file, only to find that it contained some ridiculous instructions to do some nonsense like:

  • Start a new terminal session
  • If pwd != $HOME, make that your working path
  • Run wget and then untar the file (with -xzf or -xvzf); change to it's directory
  • Locate the sub-dir called whatever and recursively chmod it's perms to 0755
    • (As opposed to the hard way)
  • Now, simply do a sudo gcc half-gainer and compile the source. Additional options:
    • If you don't have root privileges, append --prefix=[wtf[,[does-that]mean]]
    • A *nix box is preferred, but from Windows, any nonGNU roundy-whoop halfover framming shell will suffice.
    • If you can access /../var/usr/lib/bin/bash/etc/, etc, do that somehow.
    • ./
  • You're all set! If you need help, please visit our IRC support channel #confusion and ask any chanop for +v deprecated wallop access.
    • Please note that we're all very busy talking to each other about words you probably don't understand (like `deprecated`) but BE PATIENT!!! The first person who feels like it will help you as *soon* as they feel like it [unless they don't].
    • Please also be prepared to be insulted and put down, since we are the ones helping you and we're all volunteers (and since we use words like `deprecated` surrounded with `ticks` instead of 'quotes').
    • If we can't find a way to disagree with you, we'll degrade you even more (yes, it is possible) without you knowing it, and then zline your entire IP address's subnet masking block using our bare hands, ergonomicified I/O device moduli, and nodes.
  • See you there! (you idiot.)

OK I took that one a little far but it was fun. Point is, WinSCP does a lot of that greping & whatever else for you.  Great software.
